Sarawak DAP quits Pakatan Rakyat
KUCHING: Sarawak DAP announced today it was quitting the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) opposition pact in the state with immediate effect.
Its chairman, Chong Chieng Jen, said the unanimous decision was made because PR’s partner PAS had deviated from the common policy framework by pursuing the implementation of hudud law in Malaysia.
“Therefore, so long as the implementation of hudud law remains the political agenda and aim of PAS, Sarawak DAP can no longer work with PAS as a political party in Sarawak.
“As such, with PAS remaining as a component party of PR Sarawak, Sarawak DAP today resolved and made the painful decision to quit PR Sarawak,” he said after chairing a meeting of the Sarawak DAP state committee.
Chong, who is Kuching MP and Kota Sentosa assemblyman, said the resolution of Sarawak DAP was a unanimous decision of the state committee and that under the DAP party structure, Sarawak DAP had the autonomy to make such a decision.
